pedestrian blues

Car drivers aren’t the only ones who face the extra challenges of winter: slipping, sliding and getting splashed.

It doesn’t help when botched City projects like the strip boondoogle makes things more difficult for pedestrians. Planting new utility poles smack in the middle of the sidewalk doesn’t make it any easier for pedestrians and the heroic sidewalk plowers.

Bells Corners pedestrians have special challenges, even in good weather, like the sidewalk to nowhere and the Robertson Gauntlet.

But they’re not complaining – walking is so much more fun than driving, so our local walkers tend to be a happy bunch.

This veteran strip walker said he enjoyed the parts of the strip that have real sidewalks, but the gauntlets, not so much.

Cyclists too have a bit of a rough time in winter, but it obviously didn’t discourage these people or this guy from riding the rut.

don’t want to spread rumours about something that might not really be happening, but did I see the ‘sidewalk’ in front of Myers being cleared of cars and being ploughed for … dare I wish … possible pedestrian use … or was it just to clear the way to put the cars back again ?

No such luck! The cars are back so the Robertson gauntlet is still there for the stouthearted.

Remember what Rick reported to the WECA back at the beginning of November?

did you know web security is blocking your pics … that’s new today – never had a problem viewing them before

    – Hmmm, that’s funny. I can see them fine. I wonder what’s with that?

Another problem – I was using Internet Explorer at the library and I was horrified to see ads at the end of every post. I don’t see them on Firefox or Safari – can other people see them?

A third puzzle – comments aren’t always being tabulated properly, as in the example below. The WordPress “happiness engineers” (technicians) find it very odd and are still working on it:
