There are a few factors that predict generosity: age, religiosity, and tax burden. Older, more religious people tend to give more, as do developers and corporations hoping to curry favour with politicians.

Donations to politicians and political parties are eligible for generous tax deductions and rebates. Here are a few of Rick’s wealthy supporters from the LAST election.

We won’t know who’s on this year’s list until AFTER the October, 2014 vote. The Citizen thinks that candidates should be required to publish a list of contributors BEFORE this year’s election “in an accessible format, so everybody knows who is financing whom” or showering politicians with gifts.

    I agree that we should see the donations to councillors prior to the elections – I don’t think developers or corporations need the tax deductions.
    (Love your evolution joke! Enjoy watching the skating rink from my kitchen window.)

    – Corporations and developers don’t get the tax deductions and rebates directly – they have to funnel their contributions to politicians through family members and employees to receive the kickbacks from the taxpayer. But they get lots of other direct benefits from their donations.
