Two interesting events:
Saturday – FREE Eco-fair
Sunday – FREE Halloween party
The Mad Scientist will start at 1 p.m. Games, costume prizes, treats and more! All ages welcome. Great way to get in the mood for the big day on Monday.
This event is free since it is subsidized by the Westcliffe Estates Community Association – last year’s Halloween party cost $515.43. This amount comes from the community association’s yearly revenues of $12,775.61: $7,340.49 (rent charged to people who use the building), $4,200 (grant from City to pay rink workers), $950 (memberships), $10.12 (donation) and $275 (sports fees).
When I was president of the Lynwood Village Community Association our financial picture was much simpler (I’m not saying better, just simpler) – almost all of the revenue came from the rink grant of $4,700. We had no income from renting the building (everyone got it for free), we didn’t sell memberships and we didn’t charge kids who wanted to participate in LVCA-organized soccer or t-ball.
Since we relied on thousands of hours of volunteer labour to keep the rinks in perfect shape we didn’t need to spend all of the rink grant, so some money (usually close to $1000) was left over for other community events.
